3.Sura al-Imran, Medina 89

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

هَـذَا بَيَانٌ لِّلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَمَوْعِظَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿١٣٨﴾

3: 138. Here is a plain statement to men, a guidance and instruction to those who fear Allah!

وَلاَ تَهِنُوا وَلاَ تَحْزَنُوا وَأَنتُمُ الأَعْلَوْنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ ﴿١٣٩﴾

3: 139. So lose not heart, nor fall into despair:

for ye must gain mastery if ye are true in faith.

Asad this [should be] a clear lesson unto all men, and a guidance and an admonition unto the God-conscious.

Pickthall This is a declaration for mankind, a guidance and an admonition unto those who ward off (evil).

Transliteration Ha_za_ baya_nul linna_si wa hudaw wa mau'izatal lil muttaqin(a).

mauiza – admonition,

3: 139

Asad Be not, then, faint of heart, and grieve not: for you are bound to rise high if you are [truly] believers.

Pickthall Faint not nor grieve, for ye will overcome them if ye are (indeed) believers.

Transliteration Wa la_ tahinu_ wa la_ tahzanu_ wa antumul a'launa in kuntum mu'minin(a).

6. Sura al-Anam

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

أُوْلَـئِكَ الَّذِينَ هَدَى اللّهُ فَبِهُدَاهُمُ اقْتَدِهْ...

6:90. Those were the (prophets) who received Allah's guidance:

copy the guidance they received;

...قُل لاَّ أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا...

Say:

"No reward for this do I ask of you:

...إِنْ هُوَ إِلاَّ ذِكْرَى لِلْعَالَمِينَ ﴿٩٠﴾

this is no less than a Message for the nations

Asad’s Version:

6: 90

Asad ……….say: “No reward do I ask of you for this [truth]: behold, it is but an admonition unto all mankind!”

Pickthall Those are they whom Allah guideth, so follow their guidance. Say (O Muhammad, unto mankind): I ask of you no fee for it. Lo! it is naught but a Reminder to (His) creatures.

Transliteration Ula_'ikal lazina hadalla_hu fa bihuda_humuqtadih, qul la_ as'alukum 'alaihi ajra_(n), in huwa illa_ zikra_ lil'a_lamin(a).
