50. Qaf [45 verses]

Mecca Period 34

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ ...

50: 7.     And the earth-We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm,

C4946. Cf. 13:3; and 15:19 and n. 1955.

The earth is round, and yet it appears stretched out as a vast expanse, like a carpet kept steady with the weight of the mountains.

... وَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ بَهِيجٍ ﴿٧﴾

and produced therein every kind of beautiful growth (in pairs) --

C4947. Cf. 22:5, and n. 2777.

Sex in plants may be hinted at: see n. 1804 to 13:3.

تَبْصِرَةً وَذِكْرَى لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُّنِيبٍ ﴿٨﴾

50: 8.     To be observed and commemorated by every devotee turning (to Allah).

C4948. For all these things go into his very heart and soul. He loves to contemplate them, to remember them for himself as evidence of Allah's goodness and glory, and to mention and proclaim them, in the form of Psalm, Hymns, or Dikrs. (R).

Asad’s Version:

(50:7) And the earth - We have spread it wide, and set upon it mountains firm, and caused it to bring forth plants of all beauteous kinds,

(50:8) thus offering an insight and a reminder unto every human being who willingly turns unto God.

Yuksel’s Version:

50:7 The land We extended it, and placed in it stabilizers, and We gave growth in it to every kind of healthy pair.

50:8 Something to see and a reminder for every pious servant.
