8. [al-Anfal, Medina 88, after Badr, 2 H]

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:



إِذْ يُرِيكَهُمُ اللّهُ فِي مَنَامِكَ قَلِيلاً...   

8: 43.  Remember in thy dream Allah showed them to thee as few:

...وَلَوْ أَرَاكَهُمْ كَثِيرًا لَّفَشِلْتُمْ وَلَتَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي الأَمْرِ وَلَـكِنَّ اللّهَ سَلَّمَ...

if He had shown them to thee as many, ye would surely have been discouraged, and ye would surely have disputed in (your) decision:

but Allah saved (you):

...إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ ﴿٤٣﴾  

for He knoweth well the (secrets) of (all) hearts.


Pickthall’s Version:

8: 43

Pickthall When Allah showed them unto thee (O Muhammad) in thy dream as few in number, and if He had shown them to thee as many, ye (Muslims) would have faltered and would have quarrelled over the affair. But Allah saved (you). Lo! He knoweth what is in the breasts (of men).

Transliteration Iz yurikahumululla_hu fi mana_mika qalila_(n), wa lau ara_kahum kasiral lafasyiltum wa latana_za'tum fil amri wa la_kinnalla_ha sallam(a), innahu_ 'alimum biza_tis sudu_r(i).
