2. Surah Al Baqarah

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

مَّثَلُ الَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ...

2: 261. The parable of those who spend their substance in the way of Allah

... كَمَثَلِ حَبَّةٍ أَنبَتَتْ سَبْعَ سَنَابِلَ فِي كُلِّ سُنبُلَةٍ مِّئَةُ حَبَّةٍ ...

is that of a grain of corn: it groweth seven ears, and each ear hath a hundred grains.

... وَاللّهُ يُضَاعِفُ لِمَن يَشَاء وَاللّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ ﴿٢٦١﴾

Allah giveth manifold increase to whom He pleaseth; and Allah careth for all and He knoweth all things.

الَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ...

2: 262. Those who spend their substance in the Cause of Allah,

... ثُمَّ لاَ يُتْبِعُونَ مَا أَنفَقُواُ مَنًّا وَلاَ أَذًى لَّهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ...

and follow not up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury,

for them their reward is with their Lord;

... وَلاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ ﴿٢٦٢﴾

on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

2: 261

Asad The parable of those who spend their possessions for the sake of God is that of a grain out of which grow seven ears, in every ear a hundred grains: for God grants manifold increase unto whom He wills; and God is infinite, all-knowing.

Pickthall The likeness of those who spend their wealth in Allah's way is as the likeness of a grain which grow seven ears, in every ear a hundred grains. Allah give increase manifold to whom He will. Allah is All Embracing, All Knowing.

Masalul lazina yunfiqu_na amwa_lahum fi sabililla_hi ka masali habbatin ambatat sab'a sana_bila fi kulli sumbulatim mi'atu habbah(tin), walla_hu yuda_'ifu limay yasya_'(u), walla_hu wa_si'un 'alim(un).

2: 262

Asad They who spend their possessions for the sake of God and do not thereafter mar their spending by stressing their own benevolence and hurting [the feelings of the needy] shall have their reward with their Sustainer, and no fear need they have, and nether shall they grieve.

Pickthall Those who spend their wealth for the cause of Allah and afterward make not reproach and injury to follow that which they have spent; their reward is with their Lord, and there shall no fear come upon them, neither shall they grieve.

Allazina yunfiqu_na amwa_lahum fi sabililla_hi summa la_ yutbi'u_na ma_ anfaqu_ mannaw wa la_ aza_(n), lahum ajruhum 'inda rabbihim, wa la_ khaufun'alaihim wa la_ hum yahzanu_n(a).
