3. Sura al-Imran
The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَآئِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ ...
3: 185. Every soul shall have a taste of death:
C491. The soul will not die; but the death of the body will give a taste of death to the soul when the soul separates from the body. The soul will then know that this life was but a probation. And seeming inequalities will be adjusted finally on the Day of Judgment.
and only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense.
Only he who is saved far from the fire and admitted to the garden will have attained the object (of life):
for the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.
C492. Cf. Longfellow's Psalm of Life:
"All this world's a fleeting show. For man's illusion given".
The only reality will be when we have attained our final goal.
Others version:
3: 185
Asad Every human being is bound to taste death: but only on the Day of Resurrection will you be requited in full [for whatever you have done] – whereupon he that shall be drawn away from the fire and brought into paradise will indeed have gained a triumph: for the life of this world is nothing but an enjoyment of self-delusion.
Yusuf Ali Every soul shall have a taste of death: and only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the fire and admitted to the garden will have attained the object (of life): for the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.
Pickthall Every soul will taste of death. And ye will be paid on the Day of Resurrection only that which ye have fairly earned. Whoso is removed from the Fire and is made to enter Paradise, he indeed is triumphant. The life of this world is but comfort of illusion.

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:
وَلَقَدْ بَوَّأْنَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مُبَوَّأَ صِدْقٍ وَرَزَقْنَاهُم مِّنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ...
10: 93. We settled the Children of Israel in a beautiful dwelling-place, and provided for them sustenance of the best:
C1474. After many wanderings the Israelites were settled in the land of Canaan, described as "a land flowing with milk and honey" (Exod. 3:8).
They had a prosperous land; and they were supplied with spiritual sustenance by men sent to deliver Allah's Message.
They should have known better than to fall into disputes and schisms, but they did so. This was all the more inexcusable considering what bounties they had received from Allah. The schisms arose from selfish arrogance, and Allah will judge between them on the Day of Judgment.
it was after knowledge had been granted to them, that they fell into schisms.
Verily Allah will judge between them as to the schisms amongst them, on the Day of Judgment.
Others version:
10: 93
Yusuf Ali We settled the Children of Israel in a beautiful dwelling-place and provided for them sustenance of the best: it was after knowledge had been granted to them that they fell into schisms. Verily Allah will judge between them as to the schisms amongst them on the Day of Judgment.
Pickthall And We verify did allot unto the Children of Israel a fixed abode, and did provide them with good things; and they differed not until knowledge came unto them. Lo! thy Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that wherein they used to differ.

19. Surah Maryam
The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:
ثُمَّ لَنَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِالَّذِينَ هُمْ أَوْلَى بِهَا صِلِيًّا ﴿٧٠﴾
19: 70. And certainly We know best those who are most worthy of being burned therein.
Others version:
19: 70
Asad for, indeed, We know best as to which of them is most deserving of the fires of hell.
Yusuf Ali And certainly We know best those who are most worthy of being burned therein.
Pickthall There is not one of you but shall approach it. That is a fixed ordinance of thy Lord.

22. Sura al-Hajj
The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَالَّذِينَ هَادُوا وَالصَّابِئِينَ ...
22: 17. Those who believe (in the Qur'án), those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Sabians,
C2788. For Sabians, see n. 76 to 2:62.
They are also referred to in 5:69.
In both those passages the Muslims are mentioned with the Jews, Christians, and Sabians, as receiving Allah's protection and mercy.
Here, besides the four religions, there is further mention of Magians and Polytheists: it is not said that they would receive Allah's Mercy, but only that Allah will judge between the various forms of faith. (R).
Christians, Magians, and Polytheists --
C2789. This is the only place where the Magians (Majas) are mentioned in the Quran.
Their cult is a very ancient one. They consider Fire as the purest and noblest element, and worship it as a fit emblem of Allah. Their location was the Persian and Median uplands and the Mesopotamian valleys, their religion was reformed by Zardusht (date uncertain, about B.C. 600?). Their scripture is the Zend-Avesta, the bible of the Parsis. They were "the Wise men of the East" mentioned in the Gospels. (R).
Allah will judge between them on the Day of Judgment:
for Allah is witness of all things.
Others version:
22: 17
Asad Verily, as for those who attained to faith [in this divine writ], and those who follow the Jewish faith, and the Sabians, and the Christians, and the Magians, [on the one hand] and those who are bent on ascribing divinity to aught but God, [on the other] verily, God will decide between them on Resurrection Day: behold, God is witness unto everything.
Yusuf Ali Those who believe (in the Qur'an) those who follow the Jewish (scriptures) and the Sabians Christians Magians and Polytheists Allah will judge between them on the Day of Judgment: for Allah is witness of all things.
Pickthall Lo! those who believe (this Revelation), and those who are Jews, and the Sabaeans and the Christians and the Magians and the idolaters--Lo! Allah will decide between them on the Day of Resurrection. Lo! Allah is Witness over all things.
