33. Surah Al-Ahzab

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ لَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ...

33;57.[Ali] Those who annoy Allah and His Messenger -- Allah has cursed them in this world and in the Hereafter,

C3762. Cf. n. 3758 above.

...وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا ﴿٥٧﴾

and has prepared for them a humiliating Punishment.

Asad’s Version:

33:57 [Asad] Verily, as for those who (knowingly] affront God and His Apostle - God will reject them 73 in this world and in the life to come; and shameful suffering will He ready for them.

33:57 [yuksel] Surely those who harm God and His messenger, God will curse them in this life and in the Hereafter; and He has prepared for them a shameful retribution.

[[Asad’s note - 73 In classical Arabic, the term la'nah is more or less synonymous with ib'ad ("removal into distance" or "banishment"); hence, God's la'nah denotes "His rejection of a sinner from all that is good" (Lisan al-' Arab) or "exclusion from His grace" (Manar 1 1 , 50). The term mal'un which occurs inverse 61 below signifies, therefore, "one who is bereft of God's grace". ]]
