56. Surah Al-Waqiah

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

فَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ ﴿٨٨﴾

56: 88.  Thus, then, if he be of those Nearest to Allah,

فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ ﴿٨٩﴾

56: 89.   (There is for him) Rest and Satisfaction, and a Garden of Delights.

C5268. Rayhan: sweet-smelling plants, as in 55:12. Here used as an indication of Satisfaction and Delight.

وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ ﴿٩٠﴾

56: 90.  And if he be of the Companions of the Right Hand,

فَسَلَامٌ لَّكَ ...

56: 91.   (For him is the salutation), "Peace be unto thee,"

C5270. In 56:26 above the salutation of "Peace, Peace!" is addressed to those Nearest to Allah. Here we learn that it is also addressed to the Companions of the Right Hand. Both are in Gardens of Bliss; only the former have a higher Dignity than the latter.

... مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ ﴿٩١﴾

from the Companions of the Right Hand.

Asad’s Version:

56:88 [ALL OF YOU are destined to die.] Now if one happens to be of those who are drawn close unto God, 30

(56:89) happiness [awaits him in the life to come], and inner fulfilment, and a

garden of bliss.

56:90 And if one happens to be of those who have attained to righteousness," (56:91) [he, too, will be welcomed into paradise with the words,] "Peace be unto thee [that art] of those who have attained to righteousness! "
