9. [at-Tawbah, Medina 113, 9H after Tabuk]

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

9: 115. And Allah will not mislead a people after He hath guided them, in order that He may make clear to them what to fear (and avoid) --

C1367. Allah's clear commands are given, so that Believers may not be misled by their human frailty into unbecoming conduct.

for Allah hath knowledge of all things.

9: 116. Unto Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth.

He giveth life and He taketh it.

Except for Him ye have no protector nor helper.

Pickthall’s Version:

9: 115

Pickthall It was never Allah's (part) that he should send a folk astray after He had guided them until He had made clear unto them what they should avoid. Lo! Allah is Aware of all things.

Transliteration Wa ma_ ka_nallu_hu liyudilla qaumam ba'da iz hada_hum hatta_ yubayyina lahum ma_ yattaqu_n(a), innall_ha bi kulli syai'in 'alim(un).

9: 116

Pickthall Lo! Allah! Unto Him belongeth the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. He quickeneth and He giveth death. And ye have, instead of Allah, no protecting friend nor helper.

5. Surah al-Maida, Medina 112

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

5: 116. And behold! Allah will say

"O Jesus the son of Mary!

didst thou say unto men, 'worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of Allah'?"

He will say:

"Glory to Thee! never could I say what I had no right (to say).

Had I said such a thing, Thou wouldst indeed have known it.

Thou knowest what is in my heart, though I know not what is in Thine.

For Thou knowest in full all that is hidden.

C829. Jesus disclaims here any knowledge of the sort of things that are attributed to him by those who take his name.

The worship of Mary, though repudiated by the Protestants, was widely spread in the earlier churches, both in the East and the West.

Other Versions:

5: 116

Asad ……You know all that is within myself, whereas I know not what is in Yourself. Verily, it is You alone who fully know al lthe things that are beyond the reach of a created being’s perception.

Pickthall And when Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! Didst thou say unto mankind: Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah? he saith: Be glorified! It was not mine to utter that to which I had no right. If I used to say it, then Thou knewest it. Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy mind. Lo! Thou, only Thou art the Knower of Things Hidden.

Transliteration Wa iz qa_lalla_hu ya_ 'isabna maryama a'anta qulta lin na_sittakhizu_ni wa ummi ila_haini min du_nilla_h(i), qa_la subha_naka ma_ yaku_nu li an aqu_la ma_ laisa li bi haqq(in), in kuntu qultuhu_faqad 'alimtah(u_), ta'lamu ma_ fi nafsi wa la_ a'lamu ma_ fi nafsik(a), innaka anta'alla_mul guyu_b(i).

42. Ash-Shura (Consultation)

Mecca Period 53

Asad’s Version:

42:12 His are the keys of the heavens and the earth: He grants abundant sustenance, or gives it in scant measure, unto whomever He wills: for, behold, He has full knowledge of everything."

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

42:12. To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth:

He enlarges and restricts the Sustenance to whom He will:

C4540. "Sustenance", here as elsewhere, stands for all things that support every phase of life, physical, social, intellectual, or spiritual. Cf. 10:59, n. 1447.

The source of all gifts is Allah; His bounty is inexhaustible, and He gives to all; but He does not give to all in the same measure, because, out of the fullness of His knowledge and wisdom, He can judge best what is best for any of His creatures.

for He knows full well all things.
