Life and Death Giver

9: 116 Verily, God’s alone is the dominion over the heavens and the earth; He grants life and deals death; and there is none besides God who could protect you or bring you succor.

[Innal-laaha lahuu mulkus-samaa-wati walarz ]

10: 56

Asad He alone grants life and deals death; and unto Him you all must return.

Yusuf Ali Is it He Who giveth life and who taketh it and to Him shall ye all be brought back.

Pickthall He quickeneth and giveth death, and unto Him ye will be returned.

Transliteration Huwa yuhyi wa yumitu wa ilaihi turja'u_n(a).

15: 23

Yusuf Ali And verily it is We Who give life and who give death: it is We Who remain Inheritors (after all else passes away).

Pickthall Lo! and it is We, even We, Who quicken and give death, and We are the Inheritor.

Transliteration Wa inna_ lanahnu nuhyi wa numitu wa nahnul wa_risin(a).

[ Ruby’s note: Life and death are transitory state of a being: these state would ultimately passed to the Ultimate state of Being or Existence [God], that is why, I believe, the expression of God being the final inheritor is given immediately after this expression. God is the Ultimate reality on which all transitory realities are based, this is both according to the Quran and Hindu Upanishad. There are many places where it is said that finally all will return to God. ]

seeing that it is

He who gave you life, and then will cause you to die, and then will bring you back to life:

[but,] verily, bereft of all gratitude is man!

...وَهُوَ الَّذِي أَحْيَاكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ...

22: 66. It is He Who gave you life, will cause you to die, and will again give you life:

...إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَكَفُورٌ ﴿٦٦﴾

truly man is a most ungrateful creature!

10: 55 [Yunus, Mecca 51]

Yusuf Ali Is it not (the case) that to Allah belongeth whatever is in the heavens and on earth? Is it not (the case ) that Allah's promise is assuredly true? Yet most of them understand not.

Pickthall Lo! verily all that is in the heavens and the earth is Allah's. Lo! verily Allah's promise is true. But most of them know not.

Transliteration Ala_ inna lilla_hi ma_ fis sama_wa_ti wal ard(i), ala_ inna wa'dalla_hi haqquw wa la_kinna aksarahum la_ ya'lamu_n(a).
