Events during Mohammad

EVENTS

3: 59 – 63 10 Hijra : The prophet after a dispute with the Christians of Najran , accorded them a treaty guaranteeing all civic rights and the free exercise of their religion. see Asad note 48

3: 64 Say : “ O followers of earlier revelation ! Come unto that tenet which we and you hold in common: that we shall worship none but God, and that we shall not ascribe divinity to aught beside Him, and that we shall not take human beings for our lords beside God.

4: 60-64 Re Hypocrites of Medina

6: 52 Hence, repulse not [any of ] those who at morn and evening invoke their Sustainer, seeking His countenance. You are in no wise accountable for them –just as they are in no wise accountable for you – and you have therefore no right to repulse them: for then you would be among the evildoers.

The attitude and events of the people of book during Muhammed’s time :

3: 59 – 72,

4: 46 Among those of the Jewish faith there are some who distort the meaning of the [revealed] words, taking them our of their context and saying, [as it were,] " We have heard but we disobey," and, " Hear without hearkening," and, "Hearken you unto us, [O Muhammad]" - thus making a play with their tongues, and implying that the [true] Faith is false……….but God has rejected them because of their refusal to acknowledge the truth - for it is in but few things that they believe.

5: 41 O Messenger! Let not those grieve thee, who race each other into Unbelief: (whether it be) among those who say “ We believe with their lips but whose hearts have no faith; or it be among the Jews men who will listen to any lie – will listen even to others who have never so much as come to thee. They change the words from their times and places: they say, “If you are given this, take it, but if not, beware!” If anyone’s trial is intended by Allah, you have no authority in the least for him against Allah. For such – it is not Allah’s will to purify their hearts. For them there is disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a heavy punishment. Ali

52 : 29 Exort, then, for , by thy Sustainer’s grace, thou are neither a soothssayer nor a madman .

Battle of Badr

3: 13 Battle of Badr

War of Udud

3: 121 And remember, (O Prophet, the day) when thou didst set our from thy home at early morn to place the believers in battle array. And God was all -hearing all-knowing.

3: 144 Muhammad is only an apostle; all the (other) apostles have passed away before him; if, then he dies or is slain, will you turn about on your heels? …but he that turns….can in no wise harm God. (during Uhud)

3: 145 -152

3:155 Behold, as for those of you who turned away on the day [Uhud] when two hosts met in battle - Satan caused them to stumble only by means of something that they (themselves) had done. Asad,

3: 159 And it was by God's grace that you [O Prophet) did deal gently with your followers : for if you had been harsh and hard of heart, they would indeed have broken away from you. Pardon them, then, and pray that they be forgiven,

Asad note 121 : "with them" - i.e. with those of his followers who had failed in their duty before and during the disaster at Uhud. According to all available accounts , the Prophet did not even reproach any of them for what they had done,

3: 161 And it is not conceivable that a prophet should deceive - since he who deceives shall be faced with his deceit on the Day of Resurrection, when every human being shall be repaid in full for whatever he has done, and none shall be wronged.

Asad(see note 123, p.92)

3: 161 No prophet could (ever) be false to his trust. If any person is false, he shall on the Day of Judgement, restore what he misappropriated; then shall every soul receive its

due, whatever it earned and none shall be dealt with unjustly. Ali

(see Ali's note 472: Some of the hypocrites after Uhud raised some doubts about the division of the spoils, thinking to sow the seeds of poison in the hearts of the men who had deserted their posts in their in their craving for booty.)

3: 164 Indeed, God bestowed a favor upon the believers when he raised up in their midst an apostle from among themselves, to convey His messages unto them, and to cause them to grow in purity, and to impart unto them the divine writ as well as wisdom - whereas before that they were indeed, most obviously, lost in error.

3: 165 And do you , now that a calamity has befallen you after you had inflicted twice as much ( on your foes), ask yourselves, " How has this come about"

Say: "it has come from your own selves." Asad

6: 35 And if it distress you that those who deny the truth turn their backs on thee – why, then, if you are able to go down deep into the earth or to ascend a ladder unto heaven in order to bring them a message, but had God so willed, He would indeed have gathered them all unto [His] guidance. Do not, therefore allow yourself to ignore [God’s Ways].

6: 36 Only they who listen can respond to a call; and as for the dead, God can raise them from the dead, whereupon unto Him they shall return.

6: 37 And they say, “Why has no miraculous sign been bestowed on him from on high

by his Sustainer? Say: “Behold, God has the power to bestow any sign from on high.”

Yet most human beings are unaware of this –

6: 38 although there is no beast that walks on earth and no bird that flies on its two wings which is not [God’s] creature like yourselves; no single thing have We neglected in Our decree. (Asad)

And once again: Unto their Sustainer shall they [all] be gathered.

6: 37 “...........But most of them understand not.”

6: 38 There is not an animal [that lives] ...............but [forms part of ] communities like you. Nothing have We omitted from the Book, and they [all] shall be gathered to their Lord in the end.

9: 7 How can there be a league, before God and His Apostle, with the Pagans, except those with whom you made a treaty near the Sacred Mosque? As long as these stand true to you, stand you true to them: for God do love the righteous.

9: 8 How [can there be such a league] seeing that if they get an advantage over you, they respect not in you the ties either of kinship or of covenant? With [fair words from] their mouths they entice you, but their hearts are averse from you; and most of them are rebellious and wicked.

them , and God will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame,

9: 12 But if they violate their oaths after their covenant, and taunt you for your Faith, - fight you the chiefs of Unfaith: for their oaths are nothing to them: that thus they may be restrained.

9: 14 - 15 Fight them, and God will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame, help you [to victory] over them, heal the breasts of Believers, and still the indignation of their hearts. For God will turn [in mercy] to whom He will; and God is all-Knowing, all-Wise.
