Sura-2 [Al-Baqara medina 87]
The Quranic Text & Ali’s version:
2:151. A similar (favor have ye already received) in that We have sent among you a Messenger of your own, rehearsing to you Our signs, and purifying you,
C155. This verse should be read with 2:150, of which the sentence is here completed.
The argument is that in the grant of the Ka'bah Qiblah, Allah was perfecting religion and fulfilling the prayer for the future made by Abraham. That prayer was threefold:
1. That Makkah should be made a sacred Sanctuary (2:126);
2. that a truly believing (Muslim) nation should be raised, with places of devotion there (2:128); and
3. that an Apostle should be sent among the Arabs with certain qualities (2:129), which are set out there and again repeated here to complete the argument.
and instructing you in Scripture and wisdom, and in new Knowledge
Other versions:

Sura-3 [Al-Imran, Medina 89 ]
The Quranic Text & Ali’s version:
3:164. Allah did confer a great favor on the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from among themselves,
C473. Cf. 2:151.
rehearsing unto them the Signs of Allah, sanctifying them, and instructing them in Scripture and Wisdom,
while, before that, they had been in manifest error.
Other versions:
3: 164
Asad Indeed, God bestowed a favor upon the believers when he raised up in their midst an apostle from among themselves, to convey His messages unto them, and to cause them to grow in purity, and to impart unto them the divine writ as well as wisdom – whereas before that they were indeed, most obviously, lost in error.
Yusuf Ali Allah did confer a great favor on the believers when He sent among them an Apostle from among themselves rehearsing unto them the Signs of Allah sanctifying them and instructing them in Scripture and Wisdom while before that they had been in manifest error.
Pickthall Allah verily hath shown grace to the believers by sending unto them a messenger of their own who reciteth unto them His revelations, and causeth them to grow, and teacheth them the Scripture and wisdom; although before (he came to them ) they were in flagrant error.
